Another attractive prairie flower, the Tall Bellflower is a relatively tall plant with flat, star-shaped flowers, rather than bell-shaped as its name would suggest. The blue flowers approximately 1 inch across and arranged along a terminal leafy spike have a white ring at the center, a protruding pistil with 4 lobes, and prominent linear sepals. They open without apparent sequence along the stalk. |

Tall Bellflower grows in wet to mesic soils along woody edges and requires only partial sun.
It can be propagated from seeds which should
be planted on the soil surface. Tall Bellflower will bloom the
second year. |
