Prairie Larkspur Prairie Larkspur
Native to poor rocky limestone soils from Texas north to Canada, Prairie Larkspur is a beautiful plant with a terminal raceme of white flowers tinged with a bluish spot.

It is a temperamental plant that sometimes disappears in hot weather for several months, then reappears in cool weather after all hope of regenerating is gone.

Prairie Larkspur grows in dry to mesic prairie and requires full sun.

It is easily propagated from seed and will bloom the second year after seeding. It can also be divided for additional plants.

FYI image Prairie Larkspur contains the alkaloidal poison delphinine and is poisonous to livestock, especially cattle.  Native Americans reputedly used it as a narcotic.
