Tick Trefoil is a legume and another member of the pea family. Each leaf is composed of 3 leaflets. The flowers are loosely clustered along an elongated, usually unbranched stalk at the top of the plant. This legume is a loment whose ripened seedpod breaks into one-seeded sections with hooked hairs. The Tick Trefoils scatter their seeds more efficiently than any other plants on the prairie as the seeds cling to any animal or human passing by.
