Great Blue Lobelia
Great Blue Lobelia, like its more brilliantly colored relative the Cardinal Flower, usually has many flower heads on a single stem.  The flowering part of the stem often times is 1-2 feet long.

The blossom colors range from dark to light blue.

It is an attractive plant on any moist prairie planting.

Height: 1 - 4 ft

Flowering Time: Jul - Oct
   

Companion Plants:
Cardinal Flower, Marsh Milkweed, New England Aster,
Marsh Betony

Great Blue Lobelia grows in wet prairies, stream borders, and seepage areas.

It generally grows in sites where competition is minimal.

It is easily propagated from seed sown on top of the ground.  The seed is very small and light sensitive

In past times, Great Blue Lobelia was reputed to be effective in the treatment of syphilis, thus accounting for it specific name.
