The
flowers of the Evening Primrose open in the evening air and close the
following morning.
Evening Primrose does well in newly established prairie plantings but decreases as more long-lived perennials take hold. The seed stay, however, and will germinate if the soil is disturbed. |

| Evening Primrose grows in dry
to mesic prairie and requires full sun. It is easily propagated from seed and will bloom the second year. |
|
The leaves of the Evening Primrose can be eaten as cooked greens. The boiled roots of the plant taste like parsnips and supposedly increase a person's wine-drinking capacity. |
