Ironweed grows in wet to wet mesic prairie and requires full to partial sun. It is easily propagated from seed and will
bloom the second year. It can also be propagated from root division
in the spring and from cuttings in summer. |
Ironweed is a
tall but attractive plant with brilliant, deep purple blooms with numerous
heads which make a lovely cut flower bouquet. Its name ironweed comes from its strong, fibrous stems. It should not be confused with Giant Ragweed which is oftentimes mistakenly called Ironweed.
